Killer Nashville

Last week I attended Killer Nashville where I was on the Southern Fried Sleuths panel. Moderator Glen Allison kept the atmosphere light and fun, inviting panelists and the attendees to comment about what makes the South so memorable. From left to right, Glen Allison, Maggie Toussaint, Barbara Graham, Deborah Sharp, and Tony Burton.

I was also lucky enough to be interviewed by the Nashville Examiner. My interview is posted at: http://www.examiner.com/authors-in-nashville/spotlighting-author-maggie-toussaint

I enjoyed meeting up with Barbara Graham, another Five Star mystery author. Barbara and I met at another mystery conference and hit it off, so it was very enjoyable to catch up with her. Other friendships, those with Beth Terrell-Hicks and Clay Stafford, were also renewed. Nothing like the fine wine of friendship.

I also made a new friend, Nelda Copas. She joined me for breakfast one morning and we had a few great chats about publishing and the conference.

Another conference highlight was finally meeting my Five Star editor, Deni Dietz. Deni is a force to be reckoned with, both her pen and her opinions are firm and sure. She signed one of her books to me as one of her favorite authors, which warmed my heart.

I also met Sunny Frazier of Oak Tree Press. She's a marketing dynamo and I enjoyed hearing about her possee on the marketing panel.

All too soon the weekend came to an end and we headed back to southern Georgia. I love this conference and highly recommend it to published and unpublished authors.

Hoping everyone is enjoying the last little bit of summer!

  1. Nice post, Maggie. And nice to see your smiling face. I hope sometime in the future I get to see it in person.

  2. Enjoyed your take on the conference, Maggie. I thought it was great, too. We should have more breathing room next year in downtown Nashville (and I won't have so far to drive back and forth home).

  4. Hi Polly,
I appreciate your stopping in and leaving a comment. We definitely need to get together in person, some time some where.

  5. Hey Chester! I meant to list more panels and events that I loved about the conference, but I was so excited about posting my pics that I forgot. One of the highlights for me was the Thursday night mystery game hosted by Greg and Mary Bruss. Our team of Poison Blue struggled with the first two categories, but we really knew our TV mysteries!

  7. From another Five Star author, Killer Nashville is one of the conferences on my Wish List. It wasn't in the cards for 2010. I loved seeing the photos of you with Barbara and Deni, though. They are two of my favorite people.

  9. MAGGIE--I love your hair! It's so cute! Looks like you all were having a great time. I sort of know Tony Burton-at least on a Ning group--is he from Texas? Can't wait for your On the Nickel--I'll get our library to order it. Celia

  10. Hi Patricia! Thanks for stopping to show Five Star support. Can never have too much of that.

Celia, Thanks for noticing my crazy hair. I wanted something different and this is what I got. I've gotten lots of comments on it, which has been fun. Plus, it takes almost no time to style, which is a big bonus in my book. I think Tony Burton lives in north Georgia, but I might have him mixed up with someone else on the panel.

    Thanks for stopping in friends!

  11. Hi, Maggie. Sounds like a fun panel and conference. Wish I'd been there to meet everyone and see old friends. Deni Deitz is terrific. I met her several years ago at my first Malice. I didn't know anyone, and she welcomed me like an old friend. Good woman.

  12. It was wonderful to meet you Maggie. I enjoyed our conversations. Sorry I haven't gotten in touch sooner, but I had surgery August 30th and have been recouping. Continued good luck with your books.
